  • How do I approve administrative contact changes to my .ca domain name registration record?

Currently, CIRA requires that any changes to the Administrative Contact portion of the .ca domain name registration record, be approved by you or someone you have designated to perform the update. To validate the change to Administrative Contact information, you simply go to CIRA's web site according to the web address that is displayed at the top of the page, after you submit your modifications online, You will need your CIRA Account Number and CIRA permanent password (the new password). Log on at the CIRA web site, and review your new information. If correct, then press the Approve button.

If you do not Approve the changes to the Administrative Contact information, at CIRA's web site, in the allotted time (7 days), then the information in the Administrative portion of the .ca domain name registration record, will remain as it was. If this happens, you will have to re-enter the modifications form, on our site, and FORCE the information to CIRA again, to reinitiate the request to CIRA. There is a checkbox to check that allows you to force a particular section of your .ca domain name registration record to be sent to CIRA, even though you are not making any changes on our site. (since you already did that).

  • What is CWA (Confirm Without Approval) Authority?

CWA is when CIRA grants the Registrar the authority to submit modifications to the Administrative Contact section of the .ca domain name registration record, without you having to go afterwards to CIRA to approve the changes.

This means that you can log onto our Modify interface and submit your changes without further approval at CIRA, for admin contact changes. Original granting of CWA Authority requires your approval at CIRA first.

  • How do I change the organization name for a .ca domain name Registrant?

You cannot just change the organization name on a .ca domain name registration record. Unless CIRA requests a correction to an organization name, for the reason that it does not conform to their standards for matching the organization name with the registrant type, then you must create a new CIRA Registrant (no charge to do this part).

After creating a new CIRA Registrant, you must then either use the Registrant Transfer procedure, or the Registrant Merge procedure. The latter can only be initiated by our staff, and only if you wish all the .ca domain names attached to a particular CIRA Registrant to be transferred to the new CIRA Registrant.

If you have more than one .ca domain name under the CIRA Registrant with the incorrect organization name, and you only want to correct it for one .ca domain name, then you must do a Registrant Transfer. Please see the FAQ section on Registrant Transfers, after creating your new CIRA Registrant.
