How do I transfer my domain name to Canadian Domain Name Services Inc. as the Registrar?
To transfer your domain name to us as your Registrar, use the form on the Registration Forms - Choices for "Registrar Transfer". CIRA charges the receiving Registrar a transfer registration fee. Our price for transferring a registration to us is $19.99 + GST, the same as a one year registration or renewal. CIRA adds one year onto the registration on a Registrar Transfer.
If you are unhappy with your current Registrar's service or pricing, you may transfer your registration to us, any time after the domain name is 30 days old. CIRA will not allow any Registrar transfers prior to the domain being 30 days old.
The receiving Registrar must initiate the Registrar transfer request. To begin a Registrar Transfer, please use the form on the Registration Forms - Choices page. You want the form for Registrar Transfer. You begin by entering the domain name to be transferred.
Using this form allows you to transfer one domain at a time, although it is very fast. If you have a bulk number of domains you wish to transfer to us, please contact us by telephone, at 1 800 473 8096, or by email at Bulk Transfer Requests.
After the submission of your transfer request, you will receive email from CIRA asking you to go to the CIRA approval website and approve the transfer. You just log in at the CIRA site with your CIRA account information, and it's just one click of the approval button. You do not actually have to wait for CIRA's system to email you. If you received a confirmation web screen from us that has no error messages on the transaction with CIRA, then you should be able to go right then to approve the Registrar Transfer. Your CIRA user account and CIRA permanent password will remain the same, and you will be assigned a CDNS Domain Username and CDNS Domain Password by Canadian Domain Name Services Inc. to manage your domain registration record here.

You would initiate the process of transferring your domain name to another registrar, at the other registrar's web site.

What happens if I don't approve the Registrar Transfer of my domain name, and the process times out and is cancelled?
Assuming that you still want to transfer your .ca domain name to Canadian Domain Name Services Inc., then you would simply contact us for assistance. We would re-initiate the transfer request to CIRA, at no extra cost to you.

I want to transfer my .ca domain name to caDNS.ca but I have lost my CIRA account information. What should I do?
Without your CIRA account information, you will be unable to approve a transfer of Registrar. You should obtain the CIRA account information by asking your current Registrar to have CIRA email you that information.
CIRA will only email that information to the current administrative contact email address, so if that is defunct then you must work through your current Registrar to first get that fixed, so that you CAN receive an email from CIRA with your CIRA account information.
